Biography

Metastasis was conceived in mid-2004. Two deviants, stranded on the vertiginous rock of Gibraltar, were left with no choice but to express their fury and frustration through extreme metal music.

An embryonic Metastasis comprised Jason (guitarist) and Nicholas (bassist, Ted Maul). The band evolved when vocalist and long-time friend Solomon (vocals, Ted Maul and previously in Better off Dead with Jason) joined forces with Jason and Nicholas. With Solomon permanently based in London, the rest of the band decided to migrate to the UK to search for the remaining biological samples required to complete the band.

David, another rare Gibraltarian species and long-time friend, joined the band as sub-sonic sampler, master of the keyboard and commander of the hard drive.and Alex (guitars, Rose West) later joined forces as second guitarist, lending a richer sound to Jason’s lead guitar.

Noise

Metastasis have released their first, self-titled EP, which is available at gigs and on MySpace (just send them a message). On the EP Solomon’s Jurassic vocals gruesomely meld with David’s sickening giga-sounds. Nicky’s abstract bass guitar interpretation offers a distinctive groove and Jason’s violent 7-string attack contributes a melodically broad spectrum of low-tuned rhythms and penetrating lead guitar playing.

Concept

A world of war, disease, religion and terror infects the mind of those that inhabit it. The term Metastasis defines the invasion and spread of disease and it is no surprise that the band’s interest lies in this bleak and sinister place.

Lyrically, Metastasis exhibits a medical fascination, brutally depicting the horrifying impact of pathogenic micro organisms. Metastasis are enthralled by the minds of the most grim and appalling individuals and the acts they commit: capturing and torturing innocents, dismembering and carving the carcass into palatable portions, consuming the flesh of their own kind and the sexual pleasure this creates.

This fascination runs deeper; what interests Metastasis is the frail distinction between the mind of the insane and one’s own, those intense moments when a person is pushed to the brink and conscience dissolves into an uncontrollable compulsion to brutality. We are all closer to infection than we realise and Metastasis intends to close this gap.

Metastasis Live

Onlookers were stunned by the sheer brutality of Metastasis’s first performance at The Camden Underworld, supporting Aborted and Heaven Shall Burn. Many thought that the band would never be able to pull off such remarkably barbaric compositions live, but the circle pits they commanded at their debut gig prove this is a band who deliver what they promise; to claw away at the fragile essence of your humanity with their extreme metal manifestation of all that is wrong with life.
